Heb. 13:8 "Jesus Christ yesterday and today is the same; and unto the ages."
Throughout history men have made Jesus into an image which He never was, is not, and never shall be. The image which they have "painted" Him is one which was/is in accordance with their own inner corruption. You see according to who or what you are; ie, your own inner condition.
All the images of Christ held by the mass of mankind since His resurrection up until the present time, have been false, with few exceptions. This is because only they who are spiritual hold the true image and they have been few and far between. Outward professing visible "christianity" does not have the true image either. We've discussed the whys of this in previous posts.
In ancient times Christ was made into a "god of forces"; a god who forced, compelled, coerced, and demanded. This view of Christ then was played out in history in all kinds of dispicable acts of carnage "under the banner of the conquering Christ", when He had nothing to do with it; it was not part of His true character. However, in the present age, man's image of Christ has gone all the way over to the opposite extreme.
In this age is extreme, wimpified, female, who jumps to answer every whine of his (her) children. The christ of today is an emotional, "oh-you-poor-dear-I-feel-your-pain-let-me-kiss-your-owie-christ."
This christ doesn't demand holy and righteous conduct because there is no ultimate consequence for unholy/unrighteous conduct, so why should he(she)? This christ is the "toleration god", who tolerates any and all conduct (except du jour sins of "sexisim", "racisim" and "homophobism"): he (she) is non judgmental, non offending, does not condemn anyone for any sinful, god hating lifestyle (because there is no such thing-"whatever floats your boat"): wants to bless everyone with health and wealth and give them their "best life now"; he (she) wants to remove all suffering (most of which comes from one's own conduct-but of course they don't believe that); and all consequences of behavior at no cost to the individual (even if we have to legislate the consequences out of existence.).
Rev. 3:14a,15-17 "And unto the messenger of the assembly in Laodicea write.....I know your works: that neither cold are you nor hot: I would that cold you had been or hot. Thus because lukewarm you are and neither hot nor cold, I am about to vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, rich am I and have become enriched, and of nothing have I need, and know not that you are the wretched one and pitiable and destitute and blind and naked."
Laodicea basically means "peoples rights", "peoples justice", or "peoples self evident rights or justice". This is where democracy comes from: "the voice of the people is the voice of God". In this age of Laodicea, man (herself) has become god-man centered religion. "God is what I think he is". God is no longer referred to as he, but she. This occurs in the heart and comes out in words designed to cloak the actual intent. In other words, individuals may not go to the extreme and actually say God is she, but their view of Him, because of their intellect/reason based emotion, shows itself more subtly in using words or language as a cover or cloak to disguise the real intent. They use "code" words which say one thing and mean another.
"What's true for me may not be true for you". "Everything is relative". "No absolutes: no absolute truth". "All opinions have equal value". "There's no such thing as right and wrong." "Don't say anything critical or judgmental of anyone; Must not offend any one or hurt anyone's "feelings". (violation of emotions is greatest sin).
This age of Laodicea is the ultimate in self centeredness. Only certain individuals are going to hear Christ's knock at their door and open it. When they do so they will be put under discipline so that they may sup with Him, which means THEY WILL AGREE WITH HIM ABOUT THEIR FORMER CONDITION. To sup with another is to agree.
Rev. 3:18-19 "I counsel you to buy of Me gold refined by fire, that you may become rich: and white raiment that you may array yourself, and the shame of your nakedness may not be made manifest, and eyesalve to anoint your eyes that you may see. I AS MANY AS I TENDERLY LOVE, I CONVICT AND PUT UNDER DISCIPLINE: BE ZEALOUS therefore, and repent."
Those that don't open the door will go off into great tribulation. God is saving individuals, not groups.
This age is zealous (hot) for only one thing.....it's own self.
